After years of hearing about Heids, from my husband and my neighbors all from the Syracuse area. They all speak lovingly, not whining about how they miss Heids, atmosphere, food and above all the world famous mustard.
We were in a few weeks ago and you were out of it. I'm hoping I can order a case of it mailed to me in vriginia. You can reach me at vapeterson@aol.com please let me know what you need from me to complete this order. I really appreciate it and look forward to watching my husbands face as he opens his gift. Thank you, Barbara Peterson, 704.752.1120 or 276.768.8616 or alternate email lizbeth259@aol.com or the addresss listed above. We are having a family reunion on Sept 20 and would love to have it to go with our pre-ordered Hoffman's hot dogs for our family reunion. Thanks for your help,

After living in Liverpool and the surrounding area for many years, I moved away and ended up in North Carolina, All the time missing the taste of what I left behind, Salt Potatoes, Grandma Brown beans and all the wonderful things you could get at Heid's. I grew up on Hoffmans Dogs and Coneys, Thought they were availiable everywhere, Well was I wrong, We were visiting family in Oswego during classic week and made it a point to go to Heids, My wife was surprised at the line waiting to get a Hot Dog, "I said this is no line", "I remember lines out into the parking lot". We ate inside and enjoyed ourselves, We went back to Oswego, and ordered 10 pounds of Hoffmans Hot Dogs and 3 pounds of Coneys from Bosco's and Geers. We are eating good in Charlotte this month, Thanks for the memories

Just got back to Heids for a couple of dogs and a coney, up from Florida for the Oswego Classic. The only thing differernt in fifty years at Heids is the mustard is not put on from a vat with a paint stirrer. The food is still the best in 50 states.

My first visit to Heid's was in he 40's with my Dad. We didn't have much money in those days, so a trip to Heid's was something special. Over the years I took my girl friend, later my wife, then my own kids. When in the Naval Reserve, always had to go to Heid's for a snack. We now live in Georgia and once or twice a year when visiting family, a double or triple trip to Heid's is expected and always enjoyed. The House's Beverage Co and their Ginger Beer was outstanding, and Byrne Dairy chocolate mile is a must with both conies and hot dogs.

I was born in Syracuse New York and my parents moved our family to Las Vegas Nevada. So I was actually 12 years old when I left Syracuse. But I still remember those wonderful cooney's especially with chocolate milk. Went back to visit Syracuse summers after that and always went to Heids.

I am not 54 and still have a best friend who lives in Syracuse and I still live in Las Vegas.
We do not have cooneys here at all so I am in search lately of finding some to ship to me. But the best we always at Heid's and if I am ever able to visit Syracuse again, you bet I will be stopping by.

If hot dogs and coneys are your thing then heid's is the place to go. You may have to wait in line some days, you can dine in or outside under a canopy,or take them home. You can get cold beer, soda, and hot mustard with your hot dogs. Across the parking lot is an ice cream stand. To finish off a tasty dog a fun place for the kids and adults is the park across the street. There is a skatepark across the street to. If you bring the kid to the park there is a lake right next to the park. A fun thing that the adults can do if the kids are playing at the park is to fish in the lake. A fun thing for the hole family to do is to rent bikes at the park and ride them on the parkway.

My parents when dating used to go to Heid's before watching the submarine races at the lake. They've been married over 53 years now and their seven kids and numerous grandchildren always make the pilgrimage to Heid's whenever back in town. My two boys and I always go directly from the airport to Heid's when we arrive and then once more when flying back out to Texas. Wish we had a Heid's down here, but will just have to keep buying and smuggling out a box of coneys each time we head back south. Thanks for the great eats and memories!

My father and I, we love hot dogs and some years ago, my father read in a brochure, that there is a hot dog place, named Heid's and we went there. When I saw the building and the food, I fell in love in that place. The reason why some "Germans" were in Syracuse is, that my oldest sister is studying nearby, but unfortunately her study time is nearly over and in one week, I will arrive in Syracuse to visit her for her graduation, so it will be my last hot dog from Heid's for the present. But I try to come back as soon as possible...

My parents grew up in Syracuse and use to go to Heids on dates back in the early 1950's. Needless to say my family loves Heids and would go there frequently when we lived in Baldwinsville or when we went back to visit relatives in Syracuse. I've introduced my husband and son to the Heid's experience and they love it too!!! Never go out of business- I need my coney with mustard and a chocolate milk!

There is nothing like a Hofman’s coney. I remember visiting Heids many times as a youngster. We loved looking at the lake. I live in St.Louis MO and can not find the dogs anywhere. Do you ship the dogs and the buns? The buns are cut on the top, love it. I would like to introduce these items to my friends in St.Louis.
Thanks and hope to hear from you.

Good morning. I wanted to share sometimes I have had at heids. Remembering a young kid going there before the Driveinn which was almost next door to Hieds. A double bunned coney . I grew up in the Cuse and Liverpool area. My last visit was last March my oldest sister had passed away and knowing when I visited her we always went to Heids. I moved to Sarasota Florida in 1983. I have been back many times. There is no place like Heids. I submitted and email to the Food Channel for the show Diners Drive ins and Dives. I posted the website so with some luck it will be featured on the show. I miss my family and friends and going to Heids brings back so many good memories. The smiles on the faces as they take a bite of the best Hot Dogs and Coneys.

Keep up the great work.

Grew up in North Syracuse and moved when I was a Senior in High School I remember going to Heids after my mother would get out of work for a midnight snack. Mom and Dad always had to take some sweet pickle relish with us so I could have it on my single. They got the double frank and just mustard. Now, when ever I get back to Syracuse it is a must stop so I can have a double frank with mustard. Nothing beats a Heids. Sure do miss the ginger beer. Does anyone remember the brand name???? See you all as soon as I get back in the area Jeanne.

Heids should definately be on the "Diners, Drive In's and Dives" TV show on HGTV. All my life, from the time we went to Fairdale to visit my grandparents as a child to my parents as an adult there was always a memorable stop at Heids.

In 1974 I took my then 10 & 12 year old children on their first car trip out of Florida & Georgia to visit in Fairdale and my daughter, now 45, still has the paper cup her root beer came in!

More than an institution, Heids is a delightful memory which includes grandparents, parents, neices, nephews, cousins and my own children. Especially for those of us who only get to visit rarely. I just called Hoffmans this AM and had them ship 20 lbs of coneys to us.

Fun to read some of the comments about the most famous Liverpool "Institution"!!  I remember when the bowling alley was there as well!   And all of y'all that eat your coneys with chocolate milk know what's good.  Now we had to add potato chips to that.  Fortunately there is a placed called Skipper's just south of Raleigh that has Hoffman's franks and coneys AND the soft side buns!  No Heid's mustard, however, so I have to import that.  It's always fun to get back to L'Pool and eat 'em on the right plates!  Lots of wonderful memories!  Tell Don and Mary Lohr I said 'Hi"!

Hello, was wondering if you 've ever thought of opening a Heids down here in Florida. I am a native of Syracuse and have been down here for 7 years. There is a real need for a good hotdog place here and you know as well as anyone  that Heids will flourish anywhere you go. I miss that one of a kind taste.

Attached is a picture of us at Heid's in August 2007.   I use to live in Liverpool and boy do I miss those days of eating Heid's hot dogs and ice cream after a run at Onondaga Lake Park during the summer months.   We were up for a family reunion last month and it wouldn't be right to come to Syracuse without a visit to Heid's.   In the picture is my daughter, nieces and nephews.    Two are from Maryland, two are from Arizona and one is from Indiana.

I grew up in Fulton, and left there in the ealy 70's when I was about 8 years old. Our family would always stop at Heids for coneys and choclate milk. Since then I've lived all over the country and live in southern California now and nothing compares, not even close. Anyhow Mother is to old to travel and her memory not so good but she still remembers Heids! Hey, is there any way to get a bunch of coneys shipped out here, sure would make my mother happy. Hope to return some day with my family. Thanks for the memories!

I don't get back to my hometown much but was just there this May, after many years away, for a visit and business.  I got off the plane and my friend of over 30 years picked me up.  She had errands to do before going to her home and they took us into Liverpool, this was at about 10:00 AM, at the light I looked up and said HEID'S!
So, at 10 in the morning there sat my girlfriend and I enjoying a Heid's hotdog and cooney (with, of course choc. Milk).  We, to my surprise, were not alone, an elder Gentlemen had beat us in the door. During the wait to get our orders we all talked about Heid memories of our youth and the fact that all of us had moved away at sometime in our lives (I being the only one not to return) and the pilgrimages we all had made once returning to Syracuse. It seems there are always places you want to go to when you get to Syracuse and time doesn't always allow to get to all of them......BUT Heid's is the place that never gets missed.
I always take Hoffman hotdogs and cooney's back with me when I return South (along with Gramma Brown Beans, another product not to be found in the South- but they never compare to a Heid's made one.
Thanks for still being there to return to,you make the visits home almost feel like nothing has changed.

I grew up in Liverpool in the 60's and moved to Oregon 23 years ago. I was just home for a visit and my sister and I made the pilgrimage to Heid's. I'm so glad you are still there!!! There's nothing out here that's even close. And having read some of these entries I think I've been missing something by not having the chocolate milk, so there's my plan for next summer. Thanks for always being there.

I am affiliated with an online group from a Central NY chat room, and we have get togethers about 3 times a month at Heids of Liverpool.  We start when the canopy goes up and keep coming all summer till the canopy is taken down!! I love this landmark, (my mom and dad used to come to Heids on their dates before they were married, and that is 53 years as of last January). They STILL love Heids as well. Thank you for such a wonderful place to come!!

Well, after 30 years of consuming your hot dogs, I must say farewell.  I accepted a broadcasting position in North Carolina and will relocate in two weeks.  Many wonderful memories of Heid's are rapidly racing through my mind while I write this.  Memories of my father and I enjoying a hot dog after a Chief's game, seeing my son enjoy one of your hot dogs for the first time, etc.

But the memory that stands out the most, for whatever reason, was when my fiance, who was born and raised in Iowa, viewed a Heid's Coney for the first time.  "What the heck is that?" she said.  (NOTE: Iowans Coney's = New Yorers Beef Franks.)    Anyway, I watched in amazement as her face began to "morph" as I explained what a Coney was made of.  It was a beautiful summer day and we were lucky enough to grab a seat outside under your tent.  To make a long story short, she sat across from me, her face still in a permanant morphed state, as I began to consume my two Coney's.  After she consumed her first Frank, which, by the way, she really enjoyed, she looked at me and said, "I can't believe that I'm going to marry a savage.  How can you eat that?"  I quickly responded by saying, You have no clue what you're missing out on.  Just try a Coney for your little Pookie."  YUP!, she gave me the nickname Pookie.  (OK, OK, STOP LAUGHING)  Anyway, she refused at first, but then agreed.  To shorten this story even more, I waited in line to get another Coney.  When I returned to our table, I handed my fiance the Coney and said, "Here ya go, Snuggle Bunny."  (Leave me alone... I couldn't think of a better nickname.)  With her morphed face still intact, she stared at that Coney for approximately ten minutes before taking her first bite.  It seem like magic as her morphed face began to vanish with every chew.  Go figure!  As we drove away, she admitted that Heid's Coney's are "the best" hot dogs that she's ever eaten.  We plan to make one final visit to Heid's prior to our relocation down south.  Take a guess what she's going to have?

Farewell, Heid's.  We're gonna miss ya!

Kind regards,

John (and Michelle)

DeWitt, NY.
